Wiltshire beauty Queens are back in Force!

(Mrs Wiltshire Galaxy and Ms Catwalk Perfect Wiltshire

Back in 2012 was the summer of pageants, I had met Georgia for the first time after getting in touch through Facebook about her upcoming pageant, Miss galaxy. Having represented Swindon in this pageant before, I remember making a big list of stuff you can do and contacts, then suggested meeting up at the Swindon Pride parade. Never would I have thought that I would of become her best friend, being her maid of honour at her wedding and meeting someone who could be my sister, but less annoying! That summer, alongside Ruth and Ela, the Wiltshire beauty queens (hashtag and symbol)was born! We did so much together the four of us, through hiking (Ruth HATED that), to opening shops, helping out at various charity events and holding our own. We have our own whatsapp group and talk about everything under the sun.

(Kaspas!)

Fast forward to 2016 and Georgia is finally a married woman and can compete in the Mrs section, whilst I'm hoping to compete for the Welsh miss and pageant overdrive is happening again!!! And boy am I excited! We started off with The Swindonian launch night at Kaspas' new party room. There was milkshakes and puddings, all great treats and I love Kaspas' so much anyway as it's the dream pudding place!! It was great to catch up with Georgia as well!!

(The New WWBs)

Fast forward to Monday and it was the Beni Bear Prom night! I am a Patron for a charity local to Swindon called the beni Bear Club who help Autistic children and parents. It was their prom night where they got to ride in a vw camper van, dance and have their photo taken in the photo booth like true prom style! I was joined by Georgia and Jade, both wearing my dresses!! It was great to see all the children interacting and enjoying themselves, dressed up all smart and having the time of their lives! I love being a part of this charity and it's nights like these that keep me going on this pageant journey! I also got to spend it with some amazing friends!

(With the main man Beni bear!)

Being a part of pageants is not just about winning a crown and wearing a sparkly gown, its about charity, friendship and making a difference in someone's life. If I can just inspire one person in their lives, I am truly happy and it fills me with joy to be someone's role model! I have the bestest pageant friends that are right here in Wiltshire and can't wait to support their own pageant journeys! the next month we have Armed Forces Day, as well as the Miss universe GB finals which myself, Georgia, Ruth, jade and Emily will all finally meet up together to enjoy a night off and watch our fav sport, pageantry!!!

Lots of Love

Wednesday 8 June 2016

Time flys when you're stacking up the air miles!

(FOTG Internationals- Rehearsals)

It has been too long since I've written a blog entry about myself! Lately I have been writing about different pageant topics for the amazing pageant magazine Miss Natural Sparkle (so far about the curvy pageant girls, thrifty pageant girls and of course other pageant related materials). I've had the best pageant year I could of had this year and I am about to share all those sparkly details with you!

(Girlies backstage at the FOTG Finals in Paris)

First of all, I competed in the Face of the Globe International finals for the second time in my lifetime and let me tell you, it was AMAZING! Exhausting but amazing! I'm very happy to tell you I placed 7th overall, when my name was called for Top Ten I literally could not believe it! I screamed even louder when my Wiltshire Beauty Queen Ruth was called next!!! (She finished 2nd and will be back next year as Face of the Year, and she will kick pageant butt!!). Overall I raised £1230 for the Rainbow Child Foundation, I came 7th in Charity, 7th in Publicity, joint 8th in photogenic, joint 9th in congeniality so pretty much my best placing yet!!!! I met some amazing girls also, Bianca and Celene my pageant wolf pack as well as reuniting with Fiona and Alice my South West sisters, and of course my Paris buddies Stephanie and Natasha who gave me endless laughs around Disneyland and on the coach home. that's so ratchet!! I also got a chance to talk to and enjoy some great conversation with Steven Roddy from Pageant Planet and Kyle who is an amazing pageant coach! My Face of the Globe journey may have ended after three years but I am so proud to have represented my country twice in Paris!

(Miss Inspirational Finals- Miss Curves)

Straight from the coach journey back from Paris, me and Celene hit the road to Wales where she would be giving away her crown and I would be trying to gain one at the Miss Inspiration finals! it was such a long day and no sleep meant I wasn't at my A game but I am happy that I walked away with the Miss Curves inspiration award!! This brings me to The Pageant Planet. They posted a video of the FOTG final rehearsals where I was front of the stage, and the comments from all over the world about me just made my day! No negative comments but all positive about my size (as I am very different to most girls), some praised my "juicy booty", as well as call me an inspiration for them to compete as if I can do it, so can they! I am proof that curvy girls can compete and take those titles!! Once again after two years my Inspiration journey has ended with no title or placing but I have met my pageant bestie Celene through this, as well as get the Curves title!

(miss sparkling beauty finals )

Then fast forward a month and we have our very own Wiltshire beauty Queen Jade, organising her own pageant for the Rainbow Child Foundation! It was called Miss Sparkling Beauty and there were different age ranges, I was in the Ms section as I am too old for Miss! There was even a contestant from the Bus Pass Beauty Queens tv show (mega excited!) competing against me! I got to wear my Disney dress again as well as fly the Wiltshire flag in my high low! So out the awards I won:

Best Hair
Best Strut
Miss Charity
Miss Creative
Miss Publicity
Best Smile

And of course the overall title of Ms Sparkling Beauty UK 2016!! It was a great event and raised over £600 for the Rainbow Child Foundation, and I wish Jade the best of luck for the Face of the Globe Nationals in August!!

(Catwalk perfect finalists)

Now even more exciting news!! After Paris I entered a sponsorship content since I had no pageants in the pipeline and had withdrawal symptoms (a week in heels and a crown can do that to you!!) and I was picked as the winner to compete in the first Catwalk Perfect finals this September in the Ms division! I get to represent Wiltshire all over again!! So I have been very busy with my sash out and about! One appearance which sticks out to me was helping out at the BFF glitz pageant where as there was a shortage of adult contestants, I ended up borrowing a size 6 dress and squeezing my big butt into it! I also had to think of an outfit of choice so I went on stage with sunglasses and the outfit I arrived in, to "Sexy and I know it" by LMFAO. needless to say, I was the comedy section of the pageant! But I came away with queen and a big fluffy unicorn!!!!

(Swindon Adver)

I also was interviewed by our local papers who done an amazing story about the positive aspects of the pageant industry! I appeared with my little trainees who I gave been training to compete (and they did AMAZING at the glitz pageant). It's great that finally people are learning about the different types of pageants and all the charity and community work that goes into it!!

Well I am studying pageant books like crazy for a new piece for the Miss natural Sparkle magazine, have charity events coming up supporting my patron charity, have a weekend off for the first time in a long time and I'm now blonde!

Thank you for reading and see you on the flip side!!

 Love Hannah

Keeping it in the family

I often refer to my pageant friends as my “sash sisters”, we are part of a global pageant family and although we don’t share the same blood, we share the same passion for competing and making a difference in our lives and others. All that changed when my little niece followed in my footsteps to compete in a local pageant, where she walked away with the crown and like the proud pageant auntie I had inspired my little niece to take the big leap into a world of sparkles and worldwide friends. I interviewed a few pageant competitors who had kept the pageantry in the family, from mothers and daughters, to sons and grandparents! Here are their stories:
Keziah and Rachel Excell
For the regulars on the pageant scene, you cannot miss Rachel and Kez when they walk into a pageant for rehearsal! They instantly brighten up the room, their laughs are infectious and they genuinely enjoy competing together!  Keziah was the first to compete out of the mother/daughter duo to build up her confidence after being bullied and wanting to be a model. After her first pageant she felt very nervous and underprepared, and eventually asked her mother if she could compete with her and the rest is history!

“After a few kez still had lots of nerves and she asked if I would do the next with her, which I did and she was so much more relaxed and it was such fun and it brought us closer together. If I had to pick one pageant memory that stood out amongst the rest it had to be a teenie one we did. I wasn't entered but somehow I got roped into doing it. Kez also brought extra dresses. But then outfit of choice came along and all I had was the outfit I came in which was a white shorts playsuit, I used that along with keziahs black boots and a white fluffy head piece which looked strange but hey it’s all about the fun, I hadn't chosen a song for me to walk to, I left it to the directors to do and I'm known for being a joker so I get up to "I like big Butts" So me being me decide it's a good idea to spend the 90 seconds twerking around the stage, it went down so well that one of the judges and the compère jumped on the stage and joined me, Keziahs face was a picture of both horrified and omg that's my mum I love her look”.

Rachel also entered her disabled son to enter pageants, “it was one of the most important days of my life, my son who is now almost 20 has never once stepped on a stage, he has been at special needs school almost all his life and still goes there and he refused to do any plays as he couldn't cope with everyone watching him, so for him to even enter the building was amazing in itself but even though he only lasted about 30 seconds he did it”. They have raised so much money and met so many different people on the pageant journey, and they won’t be stopping anytime soon! This pageant duo will be rocking the Miss Galaxy finals next year, with Rachel entering the Ms and Keziah competing again for Scotland.

Laura and Erin White
Erin followed in her mother’s footsteps after recently seeing an article about a mother and daughter competing, and Laura telling her about her glitzy pageant past. Laura, a past finalist for Miss United Kingdom back in 1989 as well as Mrs England 1992, was thrilled that Erin would be passed down the sparkling tiara and carry on the pageant tradition in the family. “Erin’s dad who was my boyfriend back when we married in 1992 when I was competing, so he gets to go through it all again with his daughter this time! It’s very different and harder work than when I was competing. There was no involvement in fundraising or making appearances before a contest, which were just called beauty Contests then! We all had permed frizzy hair, our bathing suits were hitched up far too high and we all wore too much blue eyeliner, spray tans hadn’t been invented then!”
Erin entered pageants for confidence which was also why Laura competed in the 80’s, “I’ve seen Erin grow from a pretty but gawky teen into a beautiful young woman who has self-confidence and a belief in doing the right thing. I think it’s better now pageant wise because the girls are much more involved with the organization and work really hard before the pageant. It teaches the girls that hard work, commitment and dedication which are essential life skills for their future”.  Erin has competed in both Miss Junior Teen GB and Miss teen Galaxy Wales, coming second runner up in the 2016 competition as well as grabbing the Miss Congeniality title which to celebrate Erin bough the DVD and it now their favorite film (it really is the best pageant DVD out there!). “Last year Erin raised nearly £1000 for Together for Short Lives and is hoping to top that this year, she’s a finalist again in Miss Junior Great Britain again and think’s it’s important to remain loyal to one pageant organizer so she can give 100 per cent”. Laura is everything a pageant mum should be, helping her fundraise, taking her to various events and sharing the pageant journey which has made their bond closer as mother and daughter. Good luck for the finals Erin!

Laura and Katie Simpson
Up north in Scotland we have the dynamic due of Laura and Katie, who entered pageants first of all as a progression from dancing as Katie is a freestyle dancer who regularly competes in dance competitions. “I’ve always been behind the scenes as Katie has done 5 pageants, eventually I got roped into it but I have to say it was a lot of fun! Winning the sexiest contestant was like what! I had a chuckle! I won my first pageant of Ms Inverness and Katie came runner up in the junior division, she also places second in Little Miss British Empire in 2015.  Doing this experience has given us a strong relationship, we do so much together and are always on the road with her dance competitions so this is something we can do together!”. Katie added, “I was really excited for my mum, I knew she would go out and smash it. Mama is my biggest supporter in everything I do and I love her to bits”.  From competing in pageants Katie has signed up to two modeling agencies, as well as having her pageant mama showing everyone where she got her sass from!

 Natasha and Linda Wilson
It wasn’t until Natasha entered her first pageant that she found out that her grandma was a former Miss England herself! Lyn won the title back in 1978 back when the swimwear was the crowning attire. Natasha entered a Miss England heat in Devon and came top 12, as well as competing in Miss Earth England which she hopes to do again this year! “My best pageant moment was at miss earth England, and learning more things about being able to spread my eco message and to inspire other girls who were frightened when they were at the finals. My nan is a great supporter and thinks it’s great that even though I am in the army I can be myself and compete”.

There are many more Mother/Daughter combos, like Kristy and Daisy Fletcher who have both graced the Galaxy International stages and Kristy recently winning the Mrs World UK title (congrats) as well as the dynamic duo of Misha and Kasha Grimes who have flown to South Africa and Vegas to compete Internationally. A pageant journey shared is a pageant journey worth completing! Stay sparkling!
